March Update 2008

After the South American Tour, which went very well, I returned to the UK to help my sister Christine care for our mother, Brenda. She is nearly 86 and has been battling cancer for a few years. The whole family has been wonderfully supportive and my Mum is comfortable and happy, still laughing. I am happy to have some time off and spend it with her.

In the meantime, I have had a chance to add some new photographs to my Chiarascuro photo section. These are various recent pictures I have taken, with an emphasis on torn posters. I find that art exists everywhere one cares to look. To me there is a strange beauty in accidental images, those that are not controlled or preconceived in any way. I can imagine seeing these hanging in a gallery and signed by an artist – if that were so I would not be surprised. What surprises me is the random nature of the shapes, colours and juxtapositions. Sometimes, as in looking at clouds and finding suggestions of shapes, I find these images full of meaning despite their abstraction. One or two of them have been experimented on in Photoshop (cropping or colouring mostly) but most are seen in their natural state. Maybe I should call this ‘natural art’.

Good luck,

RG
